Week 2 – Activity 1

In this activity, we were given the task to make a practice comment on Mrs. W’s page. This is what I commented.

Hi Mrs. W,

I have thoroughly enjoyed the blog tasks. Since I don’t often use the internet to convey my thoughts, these tasks have helped me to be able to learn quickly from the guidance of others, and it has helped me strengthening my writing skills in a blog as well. Occasionally, I get lost with what I am supposed to do, but I always find my back on track.

How to Comment

Commenting is way of communicating, collaborating, and conversing with others online. It can be an exciting and fun way of responding about other people’s passions, thoughts, and feelings. However, commenting should be follow basic guidelines to be proper.

1. Stay on topic. If someone is responding to a post and are not on topic, the comments following won’t add anything to the original statement. The following will be more centered around the comment and not the post.

2. Make sure the comment is meaningful. If the comment doesn’t add any significance, constructive criticism, or extra information to the post, than don’t post it. Also, if the comment is just a short, meaningless compliment, then it should have something after to be able to respond to, or it should have reasons for that compliment.

3. Be respectful. You don’t want to discourage or hurt anyone with a negative comment. Stay positive. If you disagree with something, then write your opinion and make sure it’s polite and respectful to that person’s beliefs or feelings.

4. Don’t give away personal information. Your personal information can expose who you are to most everyone. It is a safety hazard and should be handled with caution. Check every time that your full name, address, and your personal email is not in your comment.

5. Proofread the comment. If there are any spelling, punctuation, or grammar errors, fix them. They can make something hard to understand or eligible. The comment can also become a victim of grammatical ridicule.

Overall, the guidelines help to create a better commenter in the online world. Following the guidelines keeps a person’s comment safe, valid, and meaningful.
